What “checked on the machine” means.

October 12, 2026

A lot of automation tools tell you a job is done when what they really mean is that the command was sent. The install went out, so the box turns green. Whether the software actually landed, at the right version, on that computer, is a separate question that often nobody asks.

Overseer asks it.

What happens

  • You describe what a computer should have: which software, which version, which settings.
  • Overseer reads the machine as it is today.
  • It fixes whatever does not match.
  • Then it checks again, on the machine itself, before it reports anything as done.

If that last check fails, Overseer says so. A job is only marked done when the computer shows it is done.

Why it matters

Anyone who has worked a help desk knows the ticket that says installed on a machine where it never was. Most of those come from trusting the report instead of the computer. Overseer is built so you do not have to.
